I am lagging behind many days, so let me start from the beginning.
10th Dec:
I went to Chin Ru's house for my primary school class 6/7 gathering. It has been a very long time since I saw them. I have not seen people like Jamie and Yan Liang for 6 years. We had steamboat for dinner and I had to leave early to prepare for my trip to M'sia the next day. Perhaps I was so greedy that I cooked my food haphazardly and I was in the toilet as soon as I reached home. Time really flies. Time changes a man too. There is no similarity between the people I see now and the people I saw 6 years back. All of us have matured in one way or another, but one thing for sure is it is a joy being able to meet up with my childhood friends once again. Although the next meeting might be a long time later, but I shall await it anxiously.
11th Dec:
I woke up at 6am and had to rush to the tour agency by 7am. Amazingly, I wasn't in the least tired considering I played a computer for a little while the night before. Anyway, we reached there in a taxi on time. We went to M'sia in a tour bus because my father didn't want to drive. anyway, the tour bus was a uniquely designed double-decker. My family, aunties and cousins occupied the entire lower deck. It didn't sound fun at first, but having the entire deck to ourselves also means that I could do whatever I want and sleep in whatever position I wanted. The seats were big and comfortable but not comfortable enough for me to sleep.
It was a fascinating view outside once we left Johore. The mountains, vehicles carrying durians and cars, the houses, the endless stretch of road. I couldn't sleep during the whole 9 hour journey. I didn't have to sleep. There was Garfield the movie and New Police Story on the LCD screen and my mp3 player. That's enough entertainment to keep me awake. We reached Genting Highlands at 4 plus.
Oh boy.. It was cold! I don't know if it was because I was walking in the clouds or because of the high altitude. A bit of both I guess. It was so misty that I didn't even know that the outdoor theme park was just beside the bus station. It was a long walk from the station to Hotel First World to Hotel Genting and to the 7th floor. The rooms were still not done when we arrived and while waiting, I explored the tv channels. Wonderfully, they had all 3 sports channels available. A minivan came to shuttle us from the hotel to a restaurant a little way down. It was like a typical "zhu cao" restaurant. Little did I know that it would be my dinner place for the next 3 evenings. The food was nice and cheap , so I didn't mind.
My cousin Ben and I tried to enter the casino after dinner. The first time, I was rejected because I was wearing shorts and sandals. The second time, I was rejected because I looked underage. I gave up after that. The both of us made our way to the arcade.
12 Dec:
Let me recall.........Ben and I had breakfast with our grandmother downstairs. Everybody else was still sleeping. After that, we went to explore the place. It was small compared to Hotel First World. We went to Ah Yat Abalone restaurant for lunch. We had dim sum and I regretted having such a heavy breakfast. However, I still had a 3/4 tank and gobbled up as much as I could. It was shopping after lunch with Ben and my sister. Not exactly shopping, maybe window shopping. We just went around looking at things. I kepy one eye open for a dory fish May wanted but there was none. We went to an internet cafe and spent a lazy one hour there and then went on to play pool for half an hour. On our way back to the hotel, I ate sweet corn and japanese pancakes. Yum yum. I watched tv until dinner time. No prizes for guessing it right, it was at the same place. Esther, Ben, my sister and I made a short trip to the arcade before embarking on an arduous journey down to Hotel First World. Ther is many more shops there than at Hotel Genting. There is an indoor theme park as well but it was only effective in attracting kids. We bought some sweets, chewing gum and pizza for supper and returned to the hotel. I had a hot water bath before watching the Chelsea-Arsenal match. It was a nice bath, taking into account the cold weather there. Apparently, the water didn't fancy the idea of staying at the same temperature, so I had to leave the tap on while enjoying soaking in with my mp3 in a plastic bag. Comical it may seem, but that's my idea of a holiday.
13th Dec:
Ben and I slept till a little later than the previous day. My grandmother went to breakfast with my aunt. It was still cold although we only opened the window slightly. It's amazing how such a small gap is able to ventilate the entire room and make it even colder than my own air-conditioned room. The whole group of us (9 to be exact) went to lunch in the cafeteria
It is the same place as where I ate my breakfast. It's the cheapest food nearby and we had to make do with it. The 4 of us together with my aunt and grandmother took a cab down to the shopping area and bought some Malaysian products like dried mango, coconut cake, peanut sweets and so on. The main part of it was the cable car ride back. We travelled in it from midway of Genting to the top. The journey was above the vast and dense vegetation on the slopes of Genting. It was supposedly the fastest in the world and longest in South-East Asia. It was a learning journey for me. It was dinner after that, arcade and then back to Hotel First World again. This time, I bought 2 vcds. Ben and I slept at 12, but I woke up at 4am to catch the ManU-Fulham match. What a disappointing match!
14th Dec:
It is the day we are returning to S'pore. We had a quick lunch and we went back to the hotel and waited until 1pm. Then we walked to the lobby of Hotel First World to register ourselves with the tour agency. I stood there for a whole 45 minutes while all of them went to buy food! What a joke! The bus left Genting at 230pm. I didn't feel a bit of sadness and unwillingness to leave the place at that point in time. But as I think back on it now, I feel really sad that it had come to an end so quickly. Genting felt almost like a home to me and it was an enjoyable exprience with my Ben and everyone else. I don't think I will get to see him until several months later. All good things come to an end. The only good thing which did not happen to me was that the rain and mist did not stop until the day of departure. The outdoor theme park was in clear view as I boarded my bus. The weather must be playing a prank on me. My mother assured me that we will be back sometime in a certain June. I will be back, yes, I will be back.
The ride back was uneventful. Just that one of the vcds I bought was played in the bus. Also, I spent one hour at the Singapore checkpoint. And I thought that our checkpoint has always been more efficient. I reached home at 11pm, had a dinner of the yummy Geylang beef kuay teow and talked to darling May.
15th Dec:
I had a good rest. I watched my vcd and did some housework with my sister. The maid had gone home before we went to M'sia and the replacement will only come tomorrow night. I have to get used to doing some chores and this is the time to start. I have only started to re-adjust to life back home but in 2 days, I will be on my way to HK. I wonder if it will be more fun and memorable than Genting, but I shall know soon. This time, I am bringing along my camera and practically bring back the memories with me.
Ok, there's everything. I am sure I 've left out something, but I will surely miss the need of wearing my jacket whenever I go out, the atmosphere in Hotel First World, the dinners at that restaurant and the tv programmes in Genting.
