Never Stop Dreaming

Tagboard

Tuesday, November 27, 2007

I could never expect a worse morning. The only time I had some peace was when I boarded the cab. Everything that can go wrong went wrong.

You know, when I did my paper, I seriously suspected that some bone in my hand would be fractured. I was furiously writing and thinking at the same time. No rest for 2.5 hours. It reminded me a bit of the humanities exams. It is impossible to pen down all my arguments. There just isn't enough time. Sigh.. I hope hope hope it is enough this time. And I pray pray pray I didn't screw up my essay. Oh how unpredictable results are. Guardian angel, where are you?

After the paper, I was dead beat, mentally. I fell asleep after dinner and now I am wide awake. It is silly. And hunger pangs are attacking again.

My journey

Vulnerability is what I dread. The first day in a new school. The first day in NS. The first day of university. I hardly know anyone then. I had no idea what law would be like. I only know my name and that's it. I remember the first time I read my Torts tutorial. It was like reading a tragic story and after that I went ???. That was a 'good' start to the academic year. Tomorrow, I will be taking my Torts exam. Somehow, I feel like I am going to battle. I ran away from home to meditate and sharpen my knives. Anyway, my journey has been good. I enjoy school and I enjoy studying law. The only thing that bothers me now is that my exams seem to last for an eternity. And I have problems sleeping here. I forgot it is school holidays and lots of kids are on the loose. They scream as if Man U just scored a goal and run like a herd of elephants. I made another amazing discovery. My room is just beneath the common corridor upstairs. SIGH.

Text Twist!

After dinner, I decided to take a break by trying out text twist. My highest record was 24k and I wanted to beat that. It turned out that I would be spending 1 hour on it. This result was obtained with occasional help.

I got a taste of how open-ended studying has become. Before, there were always correct answers. Now, there are no right or wrong answers, just good answers. Law is a loop. I reasoned with myself all day, finding that I am back to the square one in some cases. Sigh. The beauty of law. You can take an exam any day, so long as you feel that you are full of shit.

Stupid me!

After such a looooong time. I understand. I know. I feel. I sense. Enlightenment.
You know there are moments in life where your light bulb just lights up? Mine did today and I saw my folly. Silly, really silly. Although we have a pair of eyes, it does not mean that we can only see through them. There is this more reliable thing called the heart. We can see through them too. And that sight and feeling is what we should really rely on.

Enlightened, I feel like sleeping. It is similar to restarting the computer after formatting. I am going to press my reset button soon. But my stomach is still overloaded.

The world has gone bonkers. I suspect I wouldn't be able to afford a car in future. I will ride a bicycle instead. Save money and save the earth. Imagine a guy in suit and briefcase cycling down a highway.

Bachelor

When I was walking home just now, it suddenly occured to me. These few days, I have been leading a bachelor's life. I thought this day would only arrive after I graduate and start working for a few years. Surprise surprise. It came earlier. It's just that I don't bring girls home. Heh heh.

Cuckoo!

I wonder if any of you have heard my new song. The title is cuckoo! Please look for me if you feel sad and stressed. This song will cheer you up.

From the BEE Movie.

Cow-Mosquito:
You are a lawyer?

Mosquito-Cow:
Of course! I am already a blood-sucking parasite to begin with. All I need is a briefcase.

Note: Actual words are different. But idea is there.

This is so unfair. Why are lawyers treated as such. I'm depressed. I'm going to sing my song.

Nostalgia

I have a suddent nostalgia. I want to return to the era of Backstreet Boys! When all seem quiet, boring and lonely, they will perk me up! Just like *snap* that. They remind me of that time at the turn of the millenium. I was hooked onto them. I spent my favourite part of the year indulging in their music, reading comics and celebrating like everyone else. Since then, their music has this touch of festive celebration and romance. I feel like a kid once again....once again.

If I were to return back in time, I would do certain things differently. There are things that weigh in my heart. Who doesn't? But then again, doing them differently might not mean a better ending.

I am actually very curious as to how I behave in front of people. Different people seem to have different opinions about me. I would love very much to see the difference. Why is there a difference? Perhaps I feel differently in front of different groups of people. Very different I must say.

Come to think of it, my favourite segment of the year is here again. Oooh.. I can't wait..I can't wait. I wonder what will Santa give me this year. Uncle Santa knows what I want. *wink* But I don't need you to wrap it up. Just let it appear in the most glamourous and earth-shaking way possible. I shall be a good boy in the meantime, lest you revoke it.

Bored

I didn't want to blog about this but I am just so bored. I moved out of home to live in seclusion for 2 weeks to prepare for exams. It is not as serious as it sounds. Exams are just like passing wind. I only wanted to live a new lifestyle for a change. Barely 2 days here, I am already bored.

Anyway, to satisfy friends' interest, I decided to blog about my morning exploits on friday morning. I took a train to bus-stop X to take a bus to Kent Ridge Central Lib. I forgot which bus to take and decided to just follow the laptop crowd. Unsurprisingly, all of them boarded the same bus, so I followed suit of course. I wasn't in a rush anyway. It so happened that there were many girls on the bus and quite a few of them were ahem.. pretty. Although I found out that I was on the wrong bus after 1 min on the bus (that bus went the opposite direction to KR), I decided to stay on to find out where they were going. I spent my time peeking left and right. Then came school Y. Some people got off, but none of those girls. Hmm..this is strange. But I was certain they were going to school. Another 2 mins later, we arrived at school Z and they got off. Oh wow! All of them congregated in a single school. I got off too and headed for my original intended destination.

When I told my morning exploits to my friends, they laughed their pants off. Would you too? On hindsight, it was quite a silly thing to do. But I guess I just wanted to do something different for a change. It is a good idea to go off on a little adventure from time to time.

Ta da! Here I am on another little adventure. But BORED is still the word.

The Call

I was dying inside to hold you
Couldn't believe what I felt for you
Dying inside, I was dying inside
But I couldn't bring myself to touch you

Woohoo! But why couldn't he bring himself to touch her? If he was so certain that she was the one, what could possibly hold him back?

I received a phone call at 9am today. Some automated machine told me it was from the Singapore High Court in CHINESE and told me to press '9'. I did. Then, a chinese speaking lady answered (sounded like mainland chinese) and after a long conversation, she told me that I had to go to court for a hearing. It was related to some drug-trafficker. HUH? I mean, WHAT? I suspected she was some con-person right from the beginning. Why did the court come in before the police? And why in chinese? HELLO?? You disturbed my sleep because you wanted to trick me? She did not ask me for money. Not yet I guess. Perhaps she was just trying to sound me out. After shooting her with questions, I politely ended the conversation before going back to sleep. CRAP. Don't disturb me again or I will skin you. Yawn. What a start to a nice sunny day.

1:30am shower

Brrr... I have been shivering ever since I came out of the shower. I haven't done this for a looong time. STRANGE. I don't feel tired even at this hour, not even before I showered. No afternoon nap today, and out since 930am.

Someone said I am unfriendly today! Not that I am offended. I AM unfriendly. Never denied this. It is just my habit to observe first, talk later. Observing a person will tell you how to approach that person in a conversation. That is what I personally think. I am only unfriendly to strangers and perhaps certain people but I shall not dwell on that.

Another bad habit of mine is to isolate myself from the surroundings when I am deep into something. I will just ignore people and be oblivious to things (maybe that is why I was unfriendly today). This is just my way of keeping concentration.

Yes I am defending all my bad habits. It is just another bad habit. I am actually thinking of what to do now. Can you believe it? And studying is not my foremost priority now.

R.ship b/w a doc and ippt

EARLY in the morning, a clerk from my camp called me to book my IPPT now or I might get charged. Charged as in punished under military law which I don't study and hence, won't be able to find loopholes to exploit. Damn it. And they want me to cross the island in the midst of my exam period to endorse any doc's letter I get.

Being the obedient citizen soldier I am (it feels weird juggling military and civilian life), I made a trip to CGH to settle this matter once and for all. Ok, so for 10 mins inside, the doc insisted that it was nothing and the ligament would heal in no time. 10 days excuse. Ahem.. I can bet all my underwear that in a months' time, I still wouldn't be able to run, much less 10 days. 10 mins in the consultation room and guess what, the bill is $75. I tried to calm myself down by explaining to myself that the wonder gel they gave me is indeed wonderful. The gel would heal all kinds of ailment and even prolong my life by 10 years! $75 is indeed worth it!

When I came home, I chucked the gel one side.

My point is, it is obvious that my foot cannot support me running or jumping. The doc refused to give me a longer excuse and tossed me to let his specialist colleague handle in 3 weeks' time. Instead of settling my IPPT issue, I had to pay $75 for nothing. Horrors! Funny thing is the doc told me to sue SAF if I got injured while doing IPPT. I have a lawyer face. YAY! Yes, I paid someone $75 to tell me I have a lawyer face. ROAR!

Ok, back to the books.

Brick Wall

While everyone has built solid, boring brick walls around themselves in a bid to settle down for exams, I did something different. My set of brick walls have a door and a window. Studying does not put an end to everything else. Sometimes, it helps when one steps out of the door and take a little stroll to a nearby coffeeshop and spout nonsense to a friend. Or perhaps, one could just look out of the window and admire the beauty of a sunset (every sunset is different) and the girls passing by. Studying does not put an end to everything else.

It takes a great deal of discipline to tie myself to the chair in a non-conducive environment to study. It is different today. After a nice weekend with my boyfriend and girlfriend, it did not take much to convince myself that I had enough fun and my books need spending time with. People study best when morale is high. That is a tip for my dear friends. For the last time, studying does not put an end to eveything else.

Great singing yesterday Mr JW. Although you did not melt my heart of steel, the most important thing is you melted the hearts of the girls. Haha!

And now, back to contract!

brand new day

Time: 7:45am
Venue: Level 3 Classroom
Activity: Eating bread with egg

I kept my promise to myself to slow down and take in everything around me. I am, in fact, watching the sun rise. The process is too slow to see any marked difference. But it is a reminder of a great many things, one of which is "every brand new day brings brand new things". Philosophical.

School hasn't killed me despite all the hours poured into work. On the contrary, it did me good by broadening my perspective of the world.

I feel that I could just take a nap now. Tutorial starts in a little more than an hour later. What am I doing so early in school? That's a good question.

Research and OP

Research is never-ending. It can never be complete. A case will just pop by and say hi at anytime. And you have to entertain it, read its mind and analyse all its features. The whole cycle begins again. The past week has been hectic, all for today, a 15min presentation. Looking back, I think it was a great experience. This is how lawyers work and frankly, I was about to go bonkers. I never liked presenting something I'm not familiar with and I suspect this is not the end.

Life has been on the fastroad recently and I haven't had time to slow down and think. Think think think. When you zoom on the highway, one tend to disregard everything around. I'm slowing down now, changing to the slower lane and admire the beauty of life once again.

Law student's life

It is unfolding. I can see it. I haven't been home before 9pm this week. Every second from the moment I wake up to the moment I sleep, I think of how to sue someone. There is so much information in my brain now that sometimes I forget my name. The upcoming weekend is not for me to rest my fried brain. It is the time to sort it out. Chuck out nonsense, classify relevant information together, link them and decipher the whole picture. My first presentation is on monday! First since... PW? This is so exciting. I finally get to do what a lawyer does. Finally, education is making sense.

Mum said irregular eating times will make me grow fat. Maybe I can take this opportunity to gain a few kg. Then I can find out what it is like to feel wobbly.
