I went to Tekong with the hope of staying in the course and completeing it with my friends, but I was disappointed. I got another MC in Tekong medical centre but rejected it because I wanted to complete my range. And I did. I had fun along the way too. It was a once in a lifetime experience of firing live bullets with the SAR rifle. The recoil sensation was memorable, so was the burst of gunfire and the satisfaction of hitting the target. I scored a total of 25/32 for the test. After that, I just became a temporary storeman for the rest of the field camp, though I slept with my friends and endured the long hours with them. We usually woke up at 0630 and sleep at 2330. We slept at 0100 the first night I was there. It was because of the range training. Because there was only a groundsheet separating me and the ground, I always felt the small stones poking at me when I lie down. Worse, I had difficulty turning about due to the pain in my lungs. The temperature will also dip considerably, so all of us had to use the dirty and smelly uniform as a blanket. We suffered together. It was an experience.
I still remember stories of wild boar roaming around and ghost stories. There was one night a small group of us were waiting in the jungle waiting for transport. It was dark and there were animals running about and bats flying around. There were also some Malays praying at an opening nearby. We didn't see them but we could hear their chants. My friend said the Malays stayed there, but I'm not too sure. Ghost stories were exchanged in the meantime. Star gazing was also possible then. The entire night sky was illuminated by them. We learnt how to identify North just by looking at the stars. Really interesting.
The whole experience in Tekong was an eye-opener. I learnt many lessons there and it certainly helped when they didn't let us bathe. At least now we appreciated cleanliness. Yes there are so many things to learn in the army. Not only about military stuff but also life lessons. I have got used to military life.
I dont know anything about what I am going to do next. I have only been doing clerical stuff recently. I am already out of course and I wonder where I will be posted to. My sergeants said I will go back to do commando BMT again but my seniors told me I will do it at Tekong before ORD. Whatever the case, I am ready for it. Because I have gotten used to life there already.
A levels results releasing on Friday? Haha. No worries man. I feel that I am numb to the civilian world already. Normally, I should be fretting over it. I know I am not going to do well but it doesn't bother me. The only sign that I am subconsiously thinking of it was when I was in Tekong. I had a dream that I scored AAC. C for physics. Actually I don't know what kind of results would satisfy me either. AAC doesn't sound nice. Whatever the case, I will know soon. Really looking forward to the next weekend. It will be a long break for us to compensate for the field camp.
