Parade

Being involved in the SAF Day Parade is a break from the bores of office. Inititally, it was a chore of preparing my boots and uniform for a whole day under the sun at SAFTI doing the same drills over and over again. However, I actually enjoyed it. I'm not talking of standing in the parade square for hours, but the reunion of my course mates and other friends in the other contingents. After leaving the commando formation for more than a year, I never expected to meet my old friends again, and what more, under such conditions. The last time I saw them, we were all recruits, getting whacked by the instructors. Now, they are all trained commandos, basking in the pride of their red berets. I could sense the shock in one of my friends when he saw me. It is hard to believe that I would end up where I am. Even I find it crazy at times. Seeing them makes me feel like a recruit again. All the memories of my past 1.5 yrs start flowing back in a split second. In just about 3.5 months, I will be clearing leave and finally complete a truly amazing journey.
