NDP 2007

It was an unexpected stroke of luck when I got my hands on a pair of tickets. The actual day! I got my best friend, SY, to accompany to watch my first NDP LIVE since 1997. Exactly 10 years ago. I had to go no matter how bad my foot was, or how horrible my throat felt. It's at Marina! It's by the sea! It's going to be smashing! I've seen the platform once from the Esplanade before. Seeing it completed and from the seating gallery is a totally different feel.

Contrary to public opinion, it wasn't that hot. If I say it isn't hot, it really isn't hot. The breeze and God's merciful act of shielding us from the sun helped a great deal. Pre-parade segment crawled on for about 2 hours before the excitement began.

All hit bull's eye. Wonderful! Red lions. Why not red eagles/scorpios?

The band and choir is right in front of me. I was really impressed by this year's band. Concert hall quality music.

This is my favourite part of the parade. Chop chop must watch every year. Ever since I understand the commands and been in them myself, I appreciate military parades so much more. It gives me great pride to see a flawless parade. The effort and time put in by the marching contingents is immeasurable.

That's so majestic. A flag escorted by 4 apaches. When the national anthemn started playing, I stood at attention. That is a natural reflex after 12 years of school and 2 years of NS. 2 seconds later, I realised what a dick I am. Everyone's still talking and taking photos. "...." I whipped out my phone and took that photo.

The F-16s were too fast. HAHA! Only the smoke was left. Actually I was so awed by the planes that I forgot to take photos.

This is the proudest moment for a participant of the parade. I enjoy this the most, no matter whether I'm marching or watching. SY, hope you understand parades better. Haha.

They were like 2 steps from me. Being evil, I was hoping for a naughty little boy to start dancing around them, and pull off their SBO. Cool eh?

It is a very creative idea. They say the stage is the world's largest floating platform. Well, they are wrong. The entire Marina Bay was their stage. The dynamic defence display was very well executed. The person behind it all was my commanding officer in NS. Woah! So proud of my unit.

Those big balloons are very nice. I was telling SY that I wanted to bring them home and hang it at the gate. I would never get lost trying to find my way home then.

Jellyfish! One of the performances reminded me of Finding Nemo.

The Singapore skyline is breath-taking. The photo only tells half the story. Crazy camera. When the IR and the big wheel is up and running, I could just build a hut by the bay and live on admiring the skyline every night.

What else? It just brightens up everyone's night. Young, old, ah beng, nerds, boy girl. No one escapes the magic of the fireworks.

I saw a ghost, and decided to snap it before he disappears. The female ghost disappeared before I could snap one. Oh well. Happy birthday Singapore!!!!

Crowd was horribly large after the parade. Lesson learnt. Take a nap at the seating gallery for about 1 hour before trying to make your way home. Why not? They have Zouk DJs playing music for you. Just dance the night away and forget about squeezing with perspiring and hot bodies. If not, you might end up beside a guy whose armpit is in your face as he holds his torch up for his peeps to follow. And because it is so crowded, you realise you are stuck with this man for several more hundreds of metres.

We are singapore, we are singapore.............
